About the Stars

The Stars (22-18-3) won 5-1 over Vancouver Thursday at American Airlines Center. It was the sixth win in the last seven games (6-1-0) for the Stars, who moved into ninth place in the Western Conference and to within two points of eighth place. A win Friday will move them into the eighth spot.

“We kind of control our own destiny and every game is big for us,” said Stars center Cody Eakin, who had a goal and an assist in the game. “We’re going to give it our all and scratch and claw every chance we get and play our game from here on in.”

Goaltender Kari Lehtonen, who returned after missing three games with a groin injury, stopped 37 of 38 shots for the Stars.

Injuries: LW Lane MacDermid (chest) is day-to-day. RW Alex Chiasson (shoulder) is out.

About the Blues

The Blues (25-16-2) won 2-1 in a shootout over Phoenix Thursday. It was the second straight win for the Blues, who have won eight of their last ten games (8-2-0). Despite the win, Blues coach Ken Hitchcock was not happy.

“I was not happy with the game in general,” Hitchcock said. “We did not play very well and got away with two points, so we’ll take the two points and move on, but we didn’t play the way we need to play. If we play like this tomorrow, it’s not going to look good. I was not happy with the way we played, and we can’t play like that at this time of year.”

Hitchcock was given a game misconduct at the end of the game after he had words with the referees over a non-call on defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, whom the Blues felt was cross-checked late in regulation and Phoenix scored the game-tying goal just seconds later.

Injuries: G Jaroslav Halak (groin), RW T.J. Oshie (foot), C Scott Nichol (lower body) and RW Jamie Langenbrunner (hip) are out.
