Daley sits out with upper body injury for Stars

The Stars were without defenseman Trevor Daley in Friday’s game. Daley sat out with an upper body injury. He is listed as day-to-day. Jordie Benn took his spot in the lineup and was paired with Philip Larsen on the third defensive pairing. It was Benn’s first game in the Dallas since the March 23 tilt against Colorado.

First period

The Blues went on the game’s first power play midway through the first after a questionable boarding call on Eric Nystrom, and cashed in to take a 1-0 lead. Alex Pietrangelo blasted a puck on net from the top of the left circle and Chris Stewart scored on the rebound at the 10:10 mark.

The Stars went on their first power play with just under seven minutes left in the period, but couldn’t generate a shot on goal with the advantage.

The Stars’ best chance of the period came with just over a minute remaining, but Blues goaltender Brian Elliott stopped Loui Eriksson’s backhand bid from close range.

Second period

The Blues went on their second power play at 1:13 of the second, but couldn’t do anything with the opportunity.

The Blues took a 2-0 lead at the 7:52 mark of the second. After keeping the Stars hemmed in for a while, Ryan Reaves picked off a clearing attempt at the blue line, dumped it into the corner, went to the net and scored on the rebound of a Chris Porter shot.

The Stars went on their second power play of the night with 4:42 left in the period. Alex Goligoski had a good chance from close range early in the power play, but his shot went wide. The Stars ended up with one shot on goal on the power play, didn’t score and it remained a 2-0 game.

The Blues went on a power play with 1:42 remaining in the period, didn’t score and had 18 seconds of it carry over into the third period.

Third period

The Stars finally got on the board at the 4:37 mark of the third period when a Stephane Robidas shot fro the right point was deflected into the net by Antoine Roussel.

The Stars kept up a pretty good stream of pressure in the St. Louis zone, but couldn’t crack Elliott.

The Blues had a chance to put the game away late, but Jordie Benn helped thwart a three-on-one rush to keep it a 2-1 game.

The Stars pulled Lehtonen with about 1:15 remaining for the extra attacker, but couldn’t get the equalizer.

  1. Proud of the effort from the boys. Just one question….should we start a search for Loui Erikkson?
