Wednesday update: Kari Lehtonen to start Thursday vs. Canucks

Dallas Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen will be in goal Thursday night when the Dallas Stars take on the Vancouver Canucks at American Airlines Center. Lehtonen, who missed the last three games due to a groin injury, said he is ready to go following Wednesday’s practice in Frisco.

“I feel good,” Lehtonen said. “I’ve had a couple of good days of practicing and I am excited to get back in there.”

Prior to the injury, which he suffered late in the first period of the April 9 game against Los Angeles, Lehtonen had started 19 consecutive games. He’s hoping the time off will give him a boost.

“I played a lot of games there in a row. Hopefully it was good to get a little time off,” he said. “We have a few games left and I am even more excited now to play. We’re in a good spot and trying to climb into the playoffs.”

Injury notes: Daley questionable with upper body injury; Chiasson out

Stars defenseman Trevor Daley did not practice Wednesday due to an upper body injury. The Stars will see where he is Thursday, but think there’s a chance he’ll play against Vancouver.

“He has a little upper body thing, but we are hoping he’ll be able to go tomorrow,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “He’s had two days off. He’d be a day-to-day guy, but there is a good chance he is going to go tomorrow.”

Forward Alex Chiasson, who suffered a shoulder injury in Monday’s game against Chicago, did not practice today. He is a few days away.

“He’ll be a couple of days,” said Gulutzan. “We’ll see what transpires with him in the next couple of days.”

Forward Lane MacDermid, who has missed the last five games with a chest injury, continues to practice but is waiting for doctors to clear him to play.

“He’s cleared to skate and we’re just going day-by-day until the doctors give us the OK to let him play again,” said Gulutzan. “He’ll be ready before the season is over, that’s for sure.”

Practice lineup

Loui Eriksson moved into Alex Chiasson’s spot on a line with Jamie Benn and Ray Whitney. Reilly Smith, called up from the Texas Stars yesterday, skated on a line with Cody Eakin and Ryan Garbutt.

Here was the lineup the Stars’ used in Wednesday’s practice.

Fraser-Wandell-Roussel
