Here’s an update on Dallas Stars prospects still playing postseason hockey in juniors, Europe and college. A few more prospects had their seasons end over the past week as their teams were knocked out of the playoffs.
*C Radek Faksa (first round/2012) is headed to the AHL. Dallas assigned Faksa to the Texas Stars on Tuesday. Faksa had his junior season come to an end when the Kitchener Rangers were knocked out of the second round of the Ontario Hockey League playoffs by the London Knights. London won the series, 4-1. Faksa had 6 points (4 goals, 2 assists) in 10 playoff games for Kitchener. He had 31 points (9 goals, 22 assists) in 39 regular season games, missing time due to a knee injury and the World Junior Championship.
There’s no guarantee that he’ll play any games for Texas. It will depend on how he looks in practice and what Texas needs. The Stars have three games remaining, including one tonight, before starting the Calder Cup Playoffs next week.
*D Jyrki Jokipakka (7th round/2011) was assigned to the Texas Stars last week after his season in Finland’s SM-Liiga ended. Jokipakka had 18 points (5 goals, 13 assists) in 59 games for Ilves of Finland’s top league this season.
*C Gemel Smith (fourth round/2012) is out of the OHL playoffs after his Owen Sound team lost to Plymouth, 4-2, in the second round. Smith registered 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists) in 12 playoff games for the Attack.
*RW Cody Payne (trade acquisition/2013) plays for Plymouth and now advances to the OHL’s Western Conference Finals against London. Payne has 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) in 10 playoff games for Plymouth, which opens its series against London on Friday.
*C Taylor Peters (free agent/2013) is heading to the Western Hockey League’s Western Conference Finals. Peters has 8 points (1 goal, 7 assists) in 10 playoff games for Portland, which takes on Kamloops beginning on Friday.
*D John Klingberg (fifth round/2010) and his Swedish Elite League team, Skelleftea, are one win away from the league championship. Skelleftea leads Lulea, 3-0, in the Swedish Elite League finals. Klingberg has 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) and a plus-9 rating in 12 playoff games.
*D Dmitry Sinitsyn (seventh round/2012) had his season come to an end when UMass-Lowell lost in the Frozen Four semifinal to Yale. Sinitsyn did not play in the game. He ended his freshman season at UMass-Lowell with two goals in 13 games.
