Dallas Stars forward Lane MacDermid will be out at least another week with what coach Glen Gulutzan called a chest issue. MacDermid was injured while trying to throw a hit in Friday’s game at Anaheim.
“He’s going to be out for a little while here. He has a little bit of a, I don’t even know how to define it, a little bit of a chest issue,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “It’s not serious, but it’s going to keep him out for probably a good week. So we’ll have him looked at again in a week and see where it goes.”
Asked if it was structural or a lung, Gulutzan explained some more.
“It’s just like a little bruise that he has to let heal. I’m not exactly sure where it is,” Gulutzan said. “It’s an upper body. But at the end of the day, he’s coughed up a little bit of blood. He just has to let it heal. And it’s nothing serious. I know that and it’s something that’s lingering. A little bit before, he had the same problem. So he’s got to sit out at least here seven days and see where he is. So it’s just a matter of time in letting it heal. There’s no rehab or anything like that for it.”
The Kings are back
As for tonight, the Los Angeles Kings are back in town. The last time the Kings were here – March 31 – it did not go well for the Stars. Los Angeles won by a 3-2 margin, but the game wasn’t as close as the score indicated. The Kings completely dominated the game, outshooting the Stars 40-15.
The Stars are obviously looking for a better result this time around.
“They came at us hard early and we weren’t ready. For what ever reason, we did not match their work ethic,” said Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas. “Tonight, we have to be ready. We’ve got to compete with them. They are a big, strong, heavy team that likes to forecheck and they play tight defensively. They are not going to give you much, so you’ve got to keep it simple. We’ve got to try to come out of our end as quickly as we can, we can’t turn the puck over and we’ve got to get on the attack.
“It’s a direct game. You can’t wait for the perfect play. We’ve to go direct, we’ve got to go in their zone and spend some time in the offensive zone.”
No changes on defense
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said he expects to go with the same group of defenseman as last game, meaning Jordie Benn, who was called up from the Texas Stars yesterday, is expected to be scratched tonight.
“We certainly did (consider changes), but we’re going to stay with our pairings,” Gulutzan said. “We’ve got two in a row here. We’ve got guys that obviously we want to pick up their game, but we have belief those guys will and we’re just going to keep moving forward. We’ve got Jordie in here just because we need our seventh guy but at any point if we feel like we need to make a change, we’ll make it.”
