Here are some postgame quotes following the Dallas Stars’ 5-2 victory over the Lost Angeles Kings at Staples Center Thursday night.
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan
“I thought we played a decent game. I thought the faceoff circle hurt us and we took a lot of chances off that. A bulk of their chances were coming off lost draws, shots were coming off there. We needed to do a better job as a group.”
“They are a great team. They play hard, they are big, they are strong and they’ve got skill. They won the Cup for a reason. I thought we were OK. We got timely goals, our power play got two. Cody Eakin made a heck of a play at the end of the period where we didn’t have much going on. I thought we played better in the third.”
Gulutzan on Jaromir Jagr, who scored two goals in the game
“He’s one of the best that’s ever played. He’s engaged and he’s having fun. He’s working extremely hard in practice, away from the rink, at the rink. He’s having playing.”
Stars center Cody Eakin
“It was a full 60 minutes. We bent a little bit in the second period and they took a little bit of momentum, but we stuck with it. We knew we could were them down because they were three (games) in four nights.”
Stars right wing Jaromir Jagr on the special teams play
“The first 15 games we kind of stumbled on the power play, but lately we are doing a lot better job. It’s important in a short season, the games are so tight and the special teams are going to win the games for you.”
Jagr on leading by example
“I don’t know. I am not really sure. Last year, I knew we (Philadelphia) had a lot guys who could score goals. This year I’m getting paid a lot more money than I did last year, so I’ve got a little more responsibility on the power play and scoring goals. That’s why I have to change my thinking a little bit. I’ve got to be more hungry for the goals than I was last year.”
Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen
“You’re excited when you play against the team that just won the Cup. I think that helped us get ready to battle. It was two good teams going at it and one team has to win, and I am happy that it was us tonight. “
Los Angeles coach Daryl Sutter on whether the Kings playing their third game in four nights was a factor Thursday night
“No excuse for it. I felt good. I’m almost 55. I felt awesome today.”
