Dallas Stars captain Brenden Morrow is questionable for Saturday’s game at Phoenix after tweaking his groin in Thursday’s 5-2 victory at Los Angeles.
Morrow suffered the injury in the first period, but played through it and scored the game-winning goal early in the third period. He didn’t play the final half of the third.
“He did it in the first or second shift, I think, of the game. He had two or three heat packs on the bench just to get him through the game,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “He’s tougher than the average guy, so we’ll see where he is tomorrow. He’s probably questionable I would think, but you never know with Brenden.
“If Brenden can’t go, we have Wats (Francis Wathier) and (Matt) Fraser, and we’ll see what works the best.”
The Stars called up Fraser from the AHL on Friday. Wathier was called up earlier in the week to be an extra forward on the trip.
Gulutzan said he hasn’t decided if he’ll make any changes on defense. He said Philip Larsen, who is coming off a shoulder injury and was thought to be ready for Thursday, actually needed more time.
“We said Lars would be ready for Thursday, but when we skated him on Thursday he needed a little bit of skating. In my mind, he wasn’t completely ready,” said Gulutzan. “When you sit out with that upper body injury, you need more than just two practices sometimes to get into it. He looked better today.”
