About the Stars

The Stars (7-5-1) ran their winning streak to four games with a 4-1 win at Edmonton Tuesday night. Kari Lehtonen stopped 35 shots and the Stars got some much needed depth scoring — two goals from their fourth line (Eric Nystrom and Ryan Garbutt) and one goal from their defense (Brenden Dillon).

“We need that,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “Depth is important in this league and not every night your big guys are going to carry your team. They are going to do it most nights, but other teams have those types of players as well. Depth is really important.”

Jaromir Jagr also scored for the Stars, who ran their road winning streak to three games.

Injuries:  LW Ray Whitney (foot) is out.

About the Flames

The Flames (3-4-3) are coming off a 2-1 shootout loss to Minnesota in Calgary on Monday. It was the second straight loss for the Flames, who are 0-3 in shootouts this year.

“You get in shootouts and you get a couple of good moves, you get a couple of lucky moves, you get a save, you get a good goal and you get the win. But right now, we’re not getting it,” Flames coach Bob Hartley said.

The Flames announced that goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff will be out two weeks with an MCL injury. The Flames claimed goaltender Joey MacDonald off waivers from Detroit. MacDonald will backup Leland Irving, who is expected to carry the load while Kiprusoff is out. Irving is 1-1-1 with a 2.62 goals against average and  .900 save percentage since taking over for Kiprusoff.

Injuries:  F Mike Cammalleri (hip) is expected to play. G Miikka Kiprusoff (MCL), C Mikael Backlund (lower body), LW Sven Baertschi (hip) and C Lance Bouma (knee) are out.
