Canada, Sweden, Russia and Czech Republic were winners in day three of the World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia.
The Canadians shook off a slow start and the loss of two forwards to game misconducts to top Slovakia. Sweden overcame a third period deficit to beat Switzerland in a shootout. The Russians got a 41-save effort from goaltender Andrei Makarov in its 2-1 victory over Team USA. The Czechs rode a strong first period performance in downing Finland, 3-1.
All three Dallas Stars prospects playing in the tournament were in action on Friday.
LW Emil Molin (fourth round/2011) had another strong showing on Friday, picking up an assist in Sweden’s 3-2 shootout victory over Switzerland. Molin again played on Sweden’s second line with Sebastian Collberg and Elias Lindholm. Molin had two shots and an even-rating in the contest.
RW Brett Ritchie (second round/2011) had no points, three shots, two penalty minutes and an even rating in Canada’s 6-3 victory over Slovakia. Ritchie was on Canada’s second line with Ryan Strome and Jonathan Drouin.
C Radek Faksa (first round/2012) had no points, no shots and an even rating in Czech Republic’s 3-1 victory over Finland. Faksa, who played on a line with Martin Frk and Petr Beranek, won five of ten faceoffs.
