Tuesday update: Trevor Daley could miss start of season

Stars defenseman Trevor Daley could miss the start of the regular season due to an upper body injury.

“It looks like Trevor will miss a little bit of time,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “I don’t think he’ll be able to start the season, but it won’t be a long time.”

Daley, who was injured in Friday’s preseason game against Florida in San Antonio, wasn’t ready to say he’d miss the start of the season.

“No, no. I am hoping not,” Daley said. “We’ll give it two days and we’ll have a better idea after two days.”

The Stars are now down two NHL defensemen. Aaron Rome is not expected to be ready to start the season due to a hip procedure. If Daley can’t go, the Stars will have to adjust.

“It’s important. We’re going to have to deal with it,” said Ruff. “We’re going to have to be ready to deal with injuries to key personnel. Some guys that maybe weren’t going to be in the lineup are going to have to be ready to play when the season starts.”

Special teams focus

The focus of Tuesday’s morning skate in Frisco was special teams and there was a lot of work on penalty killing. Stars coach Lindy Ruff said he wants to use Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin in a penalty killing role this season, and those two will get a chance to do that tonight in Denver when the Stars take on Colorado in preseason play.

“One of my responsibilities is to turn them into guys that can be in real tough situations,” Ruff said. “On the flip side of it, you get opportunities on the penalty kill and if your best players are on the ice they can turn those opportunities into shorthanded goals for us. I had Chris Drury, who didn’t kill a lot of penalties, and by the time he finished his time in Buffalo he was one of the best penalty killers. I’d like to see our top guys kill.”

  1. What does the radio situation look like tonight?

  2. Radio broadcast on cruise 950 according to live stream from the fan 104.3.
I found it on the TuneIn Radio app for iOS. Web link is http://www.cruisinoldies950.com/

  3. And I can also assume the official Avalanche app will be carrying the game.

Hey Mark, who do you have to talk to to get a stars broadcast? There are a lot of fans down here that want to listen. Hockey has become one of my favorite sports. Rangers are in the playoff hunt and I’m just dying to listen to a hockey preseason game.
