Here are some postgame quotes following the Dallas Stars’ 3-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets Thursday night.
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan
“To be honest, we knew after the second period and most of our players did, too. At the moment, however, the loss stings. There was disappointment after the second, but you are focused on this game. I thought we played a real good second, a little nervous in the first. We were a little flat in the third, maybe for a reason. I don’t know.”
Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas
“It’s another tough one for me to swallow. It’s been a long time since I’ve had the chance to get in the playoffs. The good news, I guess you’ve got to look at the positives, a lot of guys fought until the end. A lot of people thought we were done after the deadline and we kind of made it until this game, we still had a chance to make it. Some guys stepped up, played very well and played very hard. That’s a positive.
Robidas on if the team knew that Detroit had won over Nashville and eliminated them from the playoff race
“We kind of found out. It’s kind of tough not to find out. For us, we still wanted to get the win, because we’re playing in front of our fans and they deserve an honest effort. We just couldn’t do it.”
Stars forward Eric Nystrom on the team missing the playoffs
“It sucks, it really does. You look back at some of the games you just missed out on, that you thought you should have won and these are games that are the first ten of the season, and you end up missing the playoffs by just a few points. It’s amazing how important every game is. It’s frustrating, but we really have improved so much. That’s really a positive.”
Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen
“Well it hasn’t really sunk in yet, I don’t think. It feels bad right now but I’m sure it feels even worse tomorrow. We need to grind out this last game and play as well as we can. That’s it.”
Columbus forward Brandon Dubinsky on the team staying alive in the race
“We can only control what we control. We came in here, did our job and we won our game. We’re going to have to do it again on Saturday. It’s going to be a great crowd and a great opportunity and it’s going to be a lot of fun. Hell of a job by these guys, six-game road trip, 5-1 against some damn good teams, really proud of these guys. The job’s not done but we gave ourselves an opportunity.”
