Stars-Predators: Postgame quotes

Here are some postgame quotes following the Dallas Stars’ 5-2 win over the Nashville Predators Friday night.

Stars coach Glen Gulutzan

“I thought they battled really hard and we didn’t get as many pucks to the net as I had hoped. I thought their penalty kill was really good, but we did get chances and we capitalized. That was the difference.”

Gulutzan on the Stars’ recent run

“We’re not getting too far ahead of ourselves. Every game is a battle and every day we are focused and we are just trying to claw ourselves into one of those top eight spots.”

“The last couple of weeks the guys have felt people have written them off and we haven’t like that very much. We just keep playing for each other in that locker room.”

Gulutzan on the play of goaltender Richard Bachman

“I thought he was real solid. He made the saves he needed to make. I thought the way he handled the puck certainly helped our D. I think he even contributed to a goal. That helps when you’re playing back-to-back, it takes some wear and tear off the guys. I thought he was solid.”

Stars goaltender Richard Bachman on the opportunity to play in key games

“It’s fun to be a part of it whether you are playing or not down the stretch, especially with people counting us out. It’s even more fun to be out on the ice playing games, helping guys out and doing my part.  Until Kari (Lehtonen) gets back real soon I am going to try to help them out every little bit I can.”

Bachman if he is ready to play back-to-back games if needed

“This time of year, no matter if it is back-to-back or three-in-three, you get yourself up and get ready to play because it is life or death for us right now. No matter what it is, you’ve got to get ready to play.”

Stars center Vernon Fiddler

“We needed these points as much as anyone and we wanted to get on them early. They’ve been struggling a little bit and we know how hard they work. We had some good jump off the start, got a little bit of a lead and built off that all night.”

Stars forward Alex Chiasson, who scored two goals, on his scoring since being called up from the AHL

“I think playing with those two guys (Ray Whitney and Jamie Benn) makes it a lot easier on me. I am playing confident right now, that’s for sure. I am just going day by day and see where it goes.”

Nashville coach Barry Trotz on his team’s intensity

“No, I thought the intensity was fine. Their intensity was not a lot higher than ours, and once the game settled in and we made it 2-1, I didn’t think their intensity was any higher than ours. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a save when we needed it. It was a tough night that way. You have four goals in eleven shots. They are fighting for their playoff lives; we are not. They didn’t dominate us. They had eleven shots and four goals.”

Nashville goaltender Chris Mason

“It’s a tough game. I felt okay at times, and I felt not very good at times. Obviously, the result was not very good.  You have to be realistic; it is tough to have that good confident feeling and feel comfortable. I haven’t played in a while. It was just a game all over the place and hopefully the next one is better.”
