Texas Stars Report: April 10

The Texas Stars went 1-2-0-0 last week, but they did clinch a playoff spot. It’s the third time Texas has made the playoffs in its four-year existence.

The Stars, 40-19-5-6, remain atop the AHL’s Western Conference, but their lead over second place Toronto is down to two points. Both teams have six games remaining. Their lead over Charlotte for the Southeast Division crown is currently seven points.

Friday April 5, Oklahoma City at Texas: Barons 3, Stars 2

Brett Ritchie scored his first professional goal for Texas, but Oklahoma City rallied from a 2-0 deficit to top the Stars, 3-2, at Cedar Park Center.

Ritchie, who joined the Stars earlier in the week after his junior season in the Ontario Hockey League ended, scored off a backhand shot 2:06 into the game to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Mike Commodore, playing in his first game for Texas, scored 55 seconds later to make it a 2-0 game.

But Oklahoma City scored once in the second to make it a 2-1 game, tied it with 4:39 remaining in the third and then won it with 15 seconds remaining.

Jack Campbell got the start in goal and stopped 26 of 29 shots.

Saturday April 6, Hamilton at Texas: Bulldogs 2, Stars 1

The Stars were victimized by a late goal on a second straight night, falling 2-1 to Hamilton at Cedar Park Center. Travis Morin staked the Stars to a 1-0 lead in the second period, but Hamilton tied the game with 6:16 left in the third and then won it with 25 seconds left in regulation. Cristopher Nilstorp, back in net after missing three weeks with a head injury, stopped 20 of 22 shots.

Sunday April 7, Texas at San Antonio: Stars 5, Rampage 1

The Stars clinched a playoff spot with a 5-1 win at San Antonio on Sunday. Morin, Commodore, Reilly Smith, Toby Petersen and Mike Hedden scored goals for Texas. Defenseman Kevin Connauton, acquired by Dallas from Vancouver in the Derek Roy deal, had two assists. Campbell got the start in goal and stopped 20 of 21 shots.
