Stars-Kings: Postgame quotes

Here are some postgame quotes following the Dallas Stars’ 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings at American Airlines Center Sunday evening.

Stars coach Glen Gulutzan

“It was two teams from two different leagues tonight. And they were back-to-back. Thank the lord they weren’t fresh.”

“Embarrassed.  At times, who are we supposed to put out? Did anyone stick out to you? We need to amp up our level. We are fighting for our lives. If we think with performances like that, we are going to stroll in, we are mistaken.  We’ve got a three-game series against Anaheim after an embarrassing outing in front of our home fans like that, we better come out hard tomorrow. We will come out hard tomorrow if we’ve got any balls.”

Gulutzan when asked if he’ll use the same group of players Monday

“Yep. We are what we are.”

On Tomas Vincour’s turnover that led to Brad Richardson’s goal that gave L.A. a 2-1 lead

“Those blind passes, backhands to the slot kind of hurt you. Actually, we practice them every day. Who the hell knows where it came from.”

Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas

“What’s most disappointing is the way we came out. It looked like we were the team that played back-to-back and had to travel. There’s no excuse for that. They come out strong. It’s our building. It’s a game that is there for us. They were supposed to be the tired team and it was the other way around. It’s disappointing. It’s the consistency that has been lacking – consistency game to game and consistency within games.”

Stars forward Jamie Benn

“They kind of took it to us there the whole game. They fed off our turnovers, we couldn’t get the puck deep. Eight shots after two periods is not going to win you hockey games.”

Kings coach Darryl Sutter on the importance of the team starting well after losing last night

“It had no bearing. We played well enough to win last night too. It had no bearing on nothing. We were in a good frame of mind by the time we were five minutes after the game yesterday.”

Sutter on how they limited Dallas to just one shot in much of the second period

“We really try not to concentrate on what the other team does. Most teams try and outshoot their opponents. Some nights you do and some nights you don’t. But we’re a team that tries to put lots of pucks to the net, so we were good at it again tonight.”

Kings forward Brad Richardson, who scored his first regular season goal since March 31, 2012

“Yeah, it’s been a trying year so far. Felt good to definitely get in there for sure, but especially get a goal, contribute and have a nice win. It was nice.”
