Dallas Stars forward Ray Whitney will be a game-time decision for tonight’s tilt against the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center. Whitney left last night’s game in the third period with an upper body injury.
Defenseman Philip Larsen, who has missed the last two games due to illness, will be a game-time decision as well.
“We’ve had the flu running through here, obviously he has something a little different. He hasn’t been able to shake it and he’s been a little bit worse here,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “For three days he hasn’t really eaten. We’ll see how he is today, it’s his first day without a fever and being able to eat.”
The Stars recalled forward Alex Chiasson from the Texas Stars of the AHL today as insurance due to injury and illness issues.
“We’ll see on Whitney’s status and we have some bangs and bruises, so we had to make sure we were covered,” Gulutzan said. “And the flu has been going through here, so we have to make sure we have a body.”
Kari Lehtonen will start in goal tonight, giving him starts on back-to-back nights. Gulutzan said a top goaltender starting back-to-back games this time of the year is par for the course.
“I don’t think it is unusual at all,” said Gulutzan. “The top guys are doing it all the time.”
