I talked with Dallas Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk briefly about today’s goaltending moves that saw the team call up Jack Campbell from the Texas Stars of the AHL and send Richard Bachman to Texas. Here’s what Nieuwendyk had to say.
“I think it is an opportunity for both goaltenders,” Nieuwendyk said. “It’s an opportunity for Bachs to go down and get two games, tonight and Friday night. Then we go on the road and give Jack a little experience at the NHL level, practicing with us. There’s no guarantee he’ll get into a game. He’ll back up Kari (Lehtonen). … We’ll see how things go in Colorado and make a decision on whether he plays in Los Angeles or not. But it is important for Bachs to get some games, some starts. Jack has played well at the AHL level and he deserves to be up at the NHL level as well.”
On a side note, Cristopher Nilstorp is out with an injury for Texas.
