Dallas Stars Prospect Report: March 18

Here are some notes on Dallas Stars prospects playing in juniors, college and the European leagues. Playoffs get underway this week in the OHL, WHL and QMJHL.

*RW Brett Ritchie (second round/2011) had one goal in two games last week for Niagara of the Ontario Hockey League. Ritchie finished the regular season with 76 points (41 goals, 35 assists) in 53 games and ranked sixth in the OHL in goal scoring. Niagara plays Oshawa in the first round of the OHL playoffs.

*C Radek Faksa (first round/2012) registered two points (one goal, one assist) over his last two games of the regular season for Kitchener of the OHL. Faksa had 31 points (9 goals, 22 assists) in 39 games this season. Kitchener plays Guelph in the first round of the OHL playoffs.

*C Gemel Smith (fourth round/2012) picked up five points (one goal, four assists) in his final three games of the regular season for Owen Sound of the OHL. Smith had 52 points (23 goals, 29 assists) in 61 games this season. Owen Sound plays Sault Ste. Marie in the first round of the playoffs.

*RW Matej Stransky (sixth round/2011) had two assists over his final three games of the season for Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League. Stransky finished the regular season with 85 points (40 goals, 45 assists) in 72 games and ranked 12th in goal scoring in the WHL and tied for 15th in points.

*C Mike Winther (second round/2012) had one assist in three games last week, finishing the regular season with 50 points (22 goals, 28 assists) in 68 games for Prince Albert of the WHL. Prince Albert plays Red Deer in round one of the WHL playoffs.

*C Taylor Peters (free agent/2013) picked up five points (two goals, three assists) over his last four games for Portland of the WHL. Peters, who snapped a 15-game pointless streak when he scored a goal against Victoria on Tuesday, finished the season with 42 points (15 goals, 27 assists) in 68 games. Portland plays Everett in the first round of the WHL playoffs.

D Troy Vance (fifth round/2011) was a plus-six over his final three games with P.E.I. of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Vance was plus-18 in 28 games after being acquired by P.E.I. prior to the QMJHL’s trade deadline. P.E.I. plays Val-d’Or in the first round of the playoffs.

*D John Klingberg (fifth round/2010) has one assist in three games for Skelleftea in the Swedish Elite League Playoffs. Skelleftea leads its first round series with Brynas, 3-0.

*D Ludwig Bystrom (second round/2012) had one assist in two games as MODO swept Brynas in the first round of the J20 playoffs in Sweden. Stars prospect Emil Molin (fourth round/2011) had one assist in two games for Byrnas.

*D Jyrki Jokipakka (seventh round/2011) has wrapped up play in the regular season for Ilves of Finland’s top league with 18 points (5 goals, 13 assists) in 59 games. Ilves missed the playoffs, but has a league qualification series that starts later this week.

*LW Alex Guptill (third round/2010) had four points (two goals, two assists) in two games as Michigan knocked off Western Michigan in the CCHA tournament. Guptill extended his points streak to nine games (seven goals, nine assists). Guptill leads the Wolverines in scoring with 33 points (14 goals, 19 assists in 36 games. Guptill and Michigan play fellow Stars prospect Curtis McKenzie (sixth round/2009) and Miami University this week in the CCHA semifinals.

*C Scott Winkler (third round/2008) had one assist in three games as Colorado College defeated Denver in the WCHA tournament. Colorado College plays North Dakota in the WCHA semifinals this week.

*LW Devin Shore (second round/2012) had two goals and one assist in two games as the University of Maine lost its Hockey East Tournament series to UMass-Lowell. Shore, a freshman, ended the season with 26 points (6 goals, 20 assists) in 38 games and led Maine in scoring.
