Dallas Stars captain Brenden Morrow wasn’t expected to play Thursday night against Anaheim due to a groin injury that kept him out of the last two games, but he toughed it out and played anyway.
“You guys could tell that he wasn’t 100 percent but he’s a warrior and he wanted to be in this game,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “And he helped, he gave us a little weight in there, just his leadership on the bench helps us out.”
Morrow played left wing on a line with center Antoine Roussel and right wing Erik Cole. Morrow played 10:45 in the game and had two shots on goal.
“I felt all right,” Morrow said. “I wasn’t at 100 percent but didn’t feel bad. Can only get better from here.”
Gulutzan said Morrow didn’t appear to take a step back by playing in Thursday night’s game, and should be better by Saturday.
“I don’t think we had any setbacks,” said Gulutzan.” He’s certainly not 100 percent, but he got through the game and I don’t think we had any setbacks. So he should be 90-95 percent for Saturday.”
Jamie Benn misses game, still day-to-day
Stars center Jamie Benn missed his second game with a wrist injury. He is listed as day-to-day.
“He’s still day-to-day,” said Gulutzan. “We hope (that he can play Saturday vs. Chicago), but it’s one day at a time.”
Benn suffered the injury in Saturday’s game at Phoenix.
