The Dallas Stars had an optional skate in Frisco on Friday. Nine players were on the ice including center Jamie Benn, who has missed the last two games with a wrist injury.
Benn, who skated at one end of the ice with assistant coach Paul Jerrard, wasn’t shooting any pucks during his time on the ice. He is questionable for tomorrow’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks at American Airlines Center.
“We’ll see how he is at tomorrow’s skate,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “He didn’t’ shoot any pucks today, so we’ll see how he is at the morning skate and we’ll make a decision after that.”
Gulutzan said that forward Ryan Garbutt hurt his hand last night, and the Stars will see how he is tomorrow.
The players who took part in the optional skate today were Jaromir Jagr, Erik Cole, Reilly Smith, Jamie Oleksiak, Tomas Vincour, Philip Larsen and goaltender Richard Bachman.
Blackhawks up next
The Stars will face a big test Saturday when the Chicago Blackhawks come to town. After two straight regulation losses, Chicago got back on track last night, defeating Columbus 2-1 in a shootout to improve to 22-2-3 on the season.
“You could even feel the energy in here today,” said Gulutzan. “We know who our opponent is tomorrow. I thought we competed hard last night, but turned over the puck a little too much. Going into the Chicago game, we know what they’ve done and everybody in the hockey world knows what they’ve done. There’s a little amped up energy here.”
“It’s the best team in the league. It’s a fast team,” said defenseman Stephane Robidas. “They have a lot of skill and they play with a lot of confidence. They’re rolling and we’ve got to be ready for a big match up against them. “
