Thursday update: No lineup changes; Ray Whitney could play Tuesday

The Dallas Stars will roll out the same lineup against the Los Angeles Kings tonight that they used in Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Blues. That means that defenseman Philip Larsen, who is ready to return from a shoulder injury, will sit out tonight.

“We thought that against L.A., this was our best lineup,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “It’s day-to-day with our lineup, so we think there are bodies we can put in and out.”

Gulutzan said he plans to start the game with the same line combinations and defense pairings as the St. Louis game, but he could make adjustments as the tonight’s tilt moves along.

“We’ll see how the flow of the game goes,” Gulutzan said. “We have some other things in our mind and if we don’t like how the matchups are going, we’ll change some things.

Kari Lehtonen, of course, gets the start in goal tonight.

Francis Wathier, called up from Texas yesterday, will be a scratch along with Larsen. Ray Whitney (foot) and Aaron Rome (foot) remain on injured reserve.

Whitney could play Tuesday

Forward Ray Whitney, who has been out since February 2 with a broken bone in his foot, is on the road trip with the Stars. Gulutzan said there is a chance Whitney could return next week, when the Stars open a four-game homestand.

“He is getting very close,” Gulutzan said. “I would say, hopefully, there is a chance on Tuesday (vs. Nashville) that he can play. He is getting in some skating with this trip and going through pregame skates is pretty easy, but when you have a broken foot you can’t take a chance. As good as he looks skating, if we take a chance now like we did when was he playing with it in the beginning, we are going to be right back to where we were before.  It’s simple – you have to wait for it to heal.”
