Here are some notes on Dallas Stars prospects playing in juniors, college and the European leagues.
*RW Brett Ritchie (second round/2011) had a productive week for Niagara of the Ontario Hockey League, picking up 8 points (5 goals, 3 assists) in three games. On Sunday, Ritchie had 2 goals, 2 assists and a plus-4 rating in Niagara’s 9-4 victory over Windsor. Ritchie, who has scored 7 goals over the last four games, ranks seventh in the OHL with 38 goals in 49 games this season.
*RW Matej Stransky (sixth round/2011) registered 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) in four games for Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League. Stransky has 28 points (16 goals, 12 assists) over his last 19 games. He has 79 points (39 goals, 40 assists) in 66 games, ranking 10th in the WHL in goals and 13th in points.
*C Radek Faksa (first round/2012) returned to the Kitchener (OHL) lineup after missing six weeks with an MCL injury. Faksa played two games over the weekend and did not register a point, but he did score in the shootout when Kitchener defeated Owen Sound, 2-1, on Friday.
*C Gemel Smith (fourth round/2012) scored a goal in Owen Sound’s 6-1 victory over Mississauga in the OHL on Saturday. It was the first goal since January 23 for Smith, who missed three weeks last month with a lower body injury. Smith has 44 points (20 goals, 24 assists) in 55 games.
*C Mike Winther (second round/2012) registered 2 goals and 1 assist in three games for Prince Albert of the WHL last week. Winther has 47 points (21 goals, 26 assists) in 61 games.
*LW Devin Shore (second round/2012) picked up 1 assist in two games for the University of Maine this weekend. Shore has points in five of his last six games and has 8 points (1 goal, 7 assists) during that stretch. Shore, a freshman, has 21 points (3 goals, 18 assists) in 34 games and ranks second on Maine in scoring.
*LW Alex Guptill (third round/2010) had 3 assists in two games for the University of Michigan over the weekend. Guptill, a sophomore, has points in five straight games and has 9 points (4 goals, 5 assists) during that stretch. Guptill has 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 32 games and leads Michigan in points and is tied for the team lead in goals.
*LW Curtis McKenzie (sixth round/2009) scored a power play goal as Miami University defeated Ohio State, 4-1, on Saturday. McKenzie, a senior, has 22 points (9 goals, 13 assists) in 33 games. He is tied for second on the team with 4 power play goals.
*C Scott Winkler (third round/2008) had 1 goal and 1 assist as Colorado College defeated Minnesota State, 4-1, on Friday. The points snapped an eight-game pointless streak for Winkler, a senior. Winkler has 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) in 34 games.
*Injury notes: RW Branden Troock (fifth round/2012) remains out indefinitely with an upper body injury for Seattle of the WHL.
