Stars-Blues: Postgame quotes

Here are some postgame quotes following the Dallas Stars’ 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues at American Airlines Center.

Stars coach Glen Gulutzan on the win

“I thought there were some good things. Obviously our start wasn’t what we wanted, but at the end of the day they came out hard and I think part of their game plan was to get on us early. They were physical with us. I think after the (Erik) Cole goal we kind of got in our mojo. We got a little better first period, and carried it over to the second and third. We did simple things. We got pucks to the net and we didn’t take penalties. We were the Boy Scouts of America today. It wasn’t a pretty hockey game to watch, but at the end of the day if you play enough of those the right way you’re going to get results. We got them tonight.”

Gulutzan on the play of Derek Roy, who had one goal and two assists

“Yesterday was the first day that he said he felt 100% healthy. He was quick on pucks, he made great little plays, especially at the end. I thought he was really good today and that’s what we’re going to get moving forward. We’re relying on him and we know he can deliver.”

Gulutzan on Antoine Roussel’s first period fight with Chris Stewart

“Roussel has done everything he can for this team. He set up that goal, I thought it was a great play, and then he fights. The reason he’s having success is because he does everything right. He works extremely hard and he’s fearless. It helped our bench to know that we have guys committed to do whatever it takes to win.”

Stars forward Derek Roy on the game

“We wanted to come out strong right away. We know we have a lot of games in March and we want to make hay at home and get some wins. We didn’t start off the way we wanted to but we battled back and got some good turnovers, we worked hard, threw pucks to the net, got some good bounces and made some good plays.”

Roy on the turning point of the game

“I think [Antoine] Roussel’s fight definitely gave us a lift. They were chipping everything in, and they’ve got big bodies and were getting in on our defensemen and working us down low. And we tried to do the same on the other end but they were doing a good job defending. And Roussel gave us a good fight and it gave us a boost. Then we got that goal by Cole and we took off after that.”

Stars forward Loui Eriksson

“The first one was kind of bad for the most part. I thought the second and the third we played really well. I think we took over the game, especially in the third, I thought we really took over the game. We didn’t give them many chances and we got some good chances against them. We got some goals too so that was really good for us.”

Blues coach Ken Hitchcock on the game

“We had too many average performances. What can you say? Too many average performances doesn’t get it done on the road. I don’t know.”

Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk

“I think they just outbattled us for the most of the game. We weren’t able to put pucks in the net. We had our opportunities there to bang some in. We just couldn’t seem to get it by Lehtonen there. We didn’t draw too many penalties either. We feed off our power play and we weren’t able to get that going either. It was a tough one all around.”
