Stars-Canucks: Postgame quotes

Here are some postgame quotes following the Dallas Stars’ 4-3 victory at Vancouver Friday night.

Stars coach Glen Gulutzan on the status of Kari Lehtonen, who left the game in the first period

“He’s going to be re-evaluated when we get back to Dallas (Saturday). It’s a lower body injury … To me, it doesn’t seem as severe (as last season’s injury).”

Gulutzan on the game

“I thought it was a really good hockey game. People who paid tonight and who watched on TV saw one heck of a hockey game. It was loud and crazy in here, and it was a big step forward for our group.”

Gulutzan on if the Ryan Garbutt, Vernon Fiddler and Eric Nystrom fights changed momentum in the game

“I thought for sure it did. We had guys try to step up and change the way the game was going at that time. It was loud in there and the record (Henrik Sedin as Canucks franchise scoring leader) was set. We needed to do something and our character guys stepped to the plate. It changed momentum. We got that late goal and got the win.”

On Richard Bachman

“He’s a mentally strong guy. He came off a game in Calgary he wasn’t happy with, but he came in relief here and made some big saves. At the end you could see he was getting more and more confident as he got into the game. That’s a big step for him as well.”

Stars goaltender Richard Bachman

“It’s never easy or fun coming in cold like that. That’s a good team with a lot of skill and they started buzzing, especially at the beginning of the second period and building started rocking. You just try to stay calm and forget about everything that is going on.”

Bachman on the momentum change in the game

“That second period is probably the loudest I’ve heard an arena. It’s kind of why you play. We were on the opposite end, but it’s great to see the passion of the fans, being that loud. It reminds you of why you do it. In a way it kind of sparked our guys. We had those three fights in a row that kind of gave us a spark, the building was still rocking and we kind of settled it in from there, calmed the fans down and we were able to do our thing after that.”

Stars defenseman Brenden Dillon on his game-winning goal

“It was a great play by (Jamie Benn). I saw an opening in the backdoor and it was a perfect pass right on my tape, and I was fortunate to pick the top shelf.”

Dillon on the win

“It was a big win for our team. We had a game plan we wanted to stick to. We were down 3-1 in this building. There was that buzz when Henrik (Sedin) got that record, and you couldn’t even hear yourself think. It was a big win for us, especially with the roll they were on and playing in this building.”

Dillon on the three fights in the game

“We’ve got a new nickname for those guys – the Hanson brothers. It was big. At that point of the game they seemed to have some of the momentum, and they really got a spark going for us.”
