The Dallas Stars are expected to announce Sunday that they’ve placed goaltender Kari Lehtonen on injured reserve, meaning Lehtonen will miss at least one week with a groin injury suffered in Friday’s 4-3 victory in Vancouver.
Lehtonen was injured with 6:27 left in the first period while stopping a shot by Vancouver forward Jordan Schroeder. Lehtonen left the game after the play and did not return.
Richard Bachman took over for Lehtonen in Friday’s game and stopped 18 of 21 shots as the Stars rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win the game. He is the likely starter for Sunday’s game against Calgary.
“If they need me I am going to try to be there and do my best to help the team win,” Bachman said after Friday’s victory.
Bachman has played three games with Dallas this season, posting a 1-2-0 record, 3.88 goals against average and .861 save percentage.
The Stars also recalled goaltender Cristopher Nilstorp from the Texas Stars of the AHL on Saturday. Nilstorp started the season in Dallas, playing two games. He posted an 0-2-0 record with a 2.70 goals against average and .918 save percentage. He suffered a groin injury in his second game and went on injured reserve.
Once healthy he returned to the AHL, where he has posted a 17-10-1 record, 2.17 goals against average, .914 save percentage and four shutouts this season.
