Stars-Oilers: Postgame quotes

Here are some postgame quotes following the Dallas Stars’ 4-1 victory in Edmonton Tuesday night.

Stars coach Glen Gulutzan

“They (the Oilers) were real quick to pucks and on us almost right from the start, especially during that second period. We held in there, got some big saves and got in the game with a fortuitous bounce. In the third period we wanted to get away from some of the matches they wanted and move our lines around a little bit, and I thought that helped us.”

Gulutzan on Kari Lehtonen

“He’s been tremendous for us. What huge saves for us in the second period, end of the (second) off his toe. That game could have been a lot different. … We’re blessed to have a goaltender of that caliber.

Gulutzan on getting some depth scoring

“We need that. Depth is important in this league and not every night your big guys are going to carry your team. They are going to do it most nights, but other teams have those types of players as well. Depth is really important. It was nice confidence-wise for (Vernon) Fiddler’s line to get a couple points tonight. I know Fidds had a couple assists tonight. It’s good for morale, the guys were hooting and hollering, calling those guys out and having some fun. When you get that secondary scoring it can only benefit.”

Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen

“There was a lot of action, in the second especially. I got lucky there a few times. It was nice to make big save when it was 2-1 late, and then we were able to score a couple goals to make it a little easier.”

Brenden Dillon on his crazy bounce goal that tied the game in the second period

“It was kind of one of those lucky bounces. …  I just tried to get it in on net and I got a bounce.”

Dillon on the play of goaltender Kari Lehtonen

“Kari’s been great. He’s been our best player. Night in, night out he’s been really great for us”

Stars center Vernon Fiddler, who had two assists in the game

“We needed to chip in. (Eric Nystrom) and I have been struggling offensively, but we’ve been trying to keep it simple and get pucks to the net as much as we can. We got rewarded. The guys buried those two and that was really nice.”

Oilers goaltender Devan Dubnyk

“Obviously that wasn’t a 4-1 game, but that’s what the score ended up being. It’s frustrating when we played as well as we did to get a couple bounces like that. Nothing you can do about it now.”

Dubnyk on Dillon’s goal

“It was a weird play. It happens. Nothing I can do about it.”
