The Dallas Stars have placed center Derek Roy on injured reserve with a groin injury. The move opens up a roster spot for Jamie Benn, who was added to the active roster after his immigration paperwork was approved earlier this afternoon. Benn is expected to play tonight in Columbus.
Here’s the release on the transaction.
The Dallas Stars announced today that they have placed forward Derek Roy on injured reserve, retroactive to the game on Jan. 24 against Chicago, when he suffered a groin injury.
Roy, 29, has skated in four games so far this season with Dallas. In that span of games, he has earned four points (0G-2A) and a plus-1 rating. He registered a season-high seven shots on Jan. 22 vs. Detroit and has been a plus or even player in three of his four games this season. The Ottawa, Ont., native was acquired by Dallas from Buffalo in exchange for Steve Ott and Adam Pardy on July 2, 2012. He was Buffalo’s second-round selection (32nd overall) in 2001.
The Dallas Stars faceoff against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena tonight at 6:00 pm where Jamie Benn is expected to make his season debut for the Stars (TV: FOX Sports Southwest; Radio: 1310 The Ticket).
