Here are some notes on Dallas Stars prospects playing in juniors, college and the European leagues.
*C Radek Faksa (first round/2012) is expected to miss 4-6 weeks for Kitchener of the Ontario Hockey League with a MCL injury suffered in a January 19 game against the Barrie Colts. Faksa was injured when he was checked along the boards.
*RW Brett Ritchie (second round/2011) missed two games for Niagara of the OHL after being suspended for instigating a fight with less than five minutes left in a game. Ritchie went after Nick Czinder after the Peterborough forward nailed Niagara rookie Aaron Haydon with a big hit. Here’s video of the hit and Ritchie’s response.
*C Gemel Smith (fourth round/2012) scored one goal in three games for Owen Sound of the OHL last week. Smith has 43 points (19 goals, 24 assists) in 48 games.
*RW Matej Stransky (sixth round/2011) had two goals and one assist in three games for Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League over the past week. Stransky has 53 points (24 goals, 29 assists) in 48 games this season.
*C Mike Winther (second round/2012) scored one goal in three games in the last week. Winther has 40 points (17 goals, 23 assists) in 45 games.
*RW Branden Troock (fifth round/2012) is listed as day-to-day with a shoulder injury for Seattle of the WHL.
*D Ludwig Bystrom (second round/2012) had no points and a plus-one rating in two games for Obrero in Sweden’s second division. He has no points and a plus-three rating in four games since being assigned to Obrero from the Swedish Elite League to get more ice time.
*D John Klingberg (fifth round/2010) had one assist in two games for Skelleftea of the Swedish Elite League. Klingberg, who missed the first part of the season due to offseason hip surgery, has eight assists and a plus-nine rating in 14 games since returning to action.
*D Esa Lindell scored the shootout winning goal as Kiekko-Vantaa defeated HCK, 2-1, in Finland’s second division on Saturday. Lindell has 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) in 22 games with K-Vantaa this season.
*LW Alex Guptill (third round/2010) ran his points streak to five games with a goal in Michigan’s 3-2 loss to Western Michigan Friday night. Guptill had 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists) during the streak, which ended Saturday night when he didn’t register a point in Michigan’s 5-1 loss to Western Michigan. Guptill, a sophomore, has 17 points (7 goals, 10 assists) in 24 games.
*LW Devin Shore (second round/2012) had two assists in two games as Maine swept a weekend series from Boston College. Shore, a freshman, ranks second on Maine with 11 points (2 goals, 9 assists) in 25 games this season.
*LW Curtis McKenzie picked up an assist in one game for Miami University over the weekend, but was suspended for the next game after picking up a major for hitting from behind and a 10 minute disqualification penalty. McKenzie, a senior, has 16 points (7 goals, 9 assists) in 23 games.
