Stars-Blues: Postgame quotes

Here are some postgame quotes following the Dallas Stars’ 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues at American Airlines Center Saturday night.

Stars coach Glen Gulutzan

“Well, you don’t get points for trying in this league. We wish we could have gotten one in the end. We got a great chance. We hit an inside post there. For our young guys, I thought a lot of them played hard tonight and handled their minutes against a real good hockey club.”

Gulutzan on what he learned about his team in games against top teams in Chicago and St. Louis

“I learned we have some work to do as a group and to get a little bit more efficient on the ice. But I also learned that we’ve got some young players that are ready for more. We might have to go through some growing pains but at the end of the day, they did well. I thought tonight work ethic wise, we worked hard.”

Stars defenseman Trevor Daley

“It’s where you give up (shots) from. You don’t want to give them up from the middle of the ice, and we gave up too many shots from the middle of the ice, too many good scoring chances. (David) Perron had a game tonight.”

Daley, who was a minus-four, on his night

“Personally it was just a bad night for myself. I thought I struggled defensively out there. You can’t have nights off, especially this time of the year. “

Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski on the second period

“We played in our zone too much. They were kind of all over us for a 10 to 12 minute span there and they got a couple. A little bit of a push late but it wasn’t enough. We’ve got to get out of our d-zone, I think that’s going to be a focus of ours moving forward.”

Goligoski on the games against Chicago and St. Louis

“I think we can learn from that fact that they work hard. Chicago and St. Louis, there work ethic is awesome. They obviously have some skilled players and good goalies and all that. They work really hard and that’s something you can look at them and take from them.”

Blues coach Ken Hitchcock

“We had three different periods. First period, we just threw our sticks on the ice. We looked at who was injured and then thought well, this’ll be an easy night and found out it wasn’t. We dug in big time second period and then we couldn’t extend the lead in the third and they came back. But it was like three different hockey games for us. We played very well in the second, very poor in the first and OK in the third.”
