Prospect notes: Austin Smith, Matej Stransky extend streaks

*Right wing Austin Smith (fifth round/2007) ran his points streak to ten games with a goal in the Idaho Steelheads’ 4-0 victory over Alaska Wednesday night in the ECHL.

Smith, who has six goals in his last four games, has registered 16 points (12 goals, 4 assists) over his last ten games. He has 21 points (15 goals, 6 assists) in 16 games with Idaho this season.

*Goaltender Tyler Beskorowany (second round/2008) stopped all 29 shots he faced in Idaho’s victory for his first shutout of the season. Beskorowany has won his last three starts for the Steelheads, stopping 84 of 86 shots.

*Right wing Matej Stransky (sixth round/2011) ran his points streak to five games, picking up a goal and an assist as Saskatoon defeated Moose Jaw, 5-2, in the Western Hockey League Wednesday night. Stransky has 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) during the five-game streak and now has 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists) over his last 24 games.

*Right wing Brett Ritchie (second round/2011) did not suit up for Team Canada in its 4-1 exhibition loss to the University of Alberta at Canada’s National Junior selection camp in Calgary Wednesday afternoon.   Ritchie sitting out the game is an indication that he is considered a lock to make Canada’s roster for the 2013 World Junior Championship, which gets underway later this month in Russia.

Canada, which made its first round of cuts on Wednesday, has another exhibition game on Thursday.

Canada is expected to announce its roster of 23 players Thursday evening.
