The Texas Stars continued to rack up points on their road trip over the past week, winning three of four games (3-1-0-0). The Stars are 4-1-0-0 in the first five games of their six-game trip, and are 7-2-1-0 in their last ten games overall.
Just past the quarter point of the season, the Stars are 10-8-1-1. They are ninth in the AHL’s Western Conference based on points and eighth based on points percentage.
Dallas Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk watched the Texas Stars play in Grand Rapids, Michigan over the weekend and offered this assessment of the team during an intermission interview on the Texas Stars radio broadcast on Saturday.
“We’re a work in progress. We’ve got a lot of young players. We have two first-year goaltenders and a lot of first-year players up front,” Nieuwendyk said. “It takes time to put it all together. These guys are learning how to play in a very tough league. It’s an extremely tough league with a lot of NHL players that are playing down here.”
Tuesday November 27, Texas at Rockford: Stars 5, IceHogs 4
Rockford scored three goals in the first 4:37 of the game to take a 3-0 lead, but the Stars rallied for a 5-4 victory in Rockford.
Antoine Roussel, Alex Chiasson, Jordie Benn, Reilly Smith and Colton Sceviour all scored for Texas. Sceviour’s goal with 10:58 remaining broke a 4-4 tie and was the game-winner.
Jack Campbell, making his first start since November 10, stopped 33 shots for Texas.
Friday November 30, Texas at Grand Rapids: Stars 3, Griffins 1
The Stars ran their winning streak to three games and their road winning streak to four with a win at Grand Rapids on Friday.
The Stars trailed 1-0 after one period, but a second period goal by Reilly Smith tied it and then Benn and Chiasson scored goals 43 seconds apart in the third period to give the Stars a 3-1 lead.
Cristopher Nilstorp got the start in goal and stopped 22 of 23 shots.
Saturday December 1, Texas at Grand Rapids: Griffins 3, Stars 2
The Stars’ winning streak ended with a 3-2 loss at Grand Rapids on Saturday night.
After falling behind 1-0 early, goals by Matt Fraser and Chiasson had the Stars up 2-1 after the first period.
But the Griffins scored two goals in the second period to take a 3-2 lead that they held through the rest of the game.
Campbell got the start in goal and stopped 33 of 36 shots.
Sunday December 2, Texas at Peoria: Stars 4, Rivermen 3 (SO)
The Stars overcame a 2-0 deficit, a late game-tying goal, but came away with two points as they defeated Peoria 4-3 in a ten-round shootout Sunday.
The Stars, who were playing their third game in as many nights, trailed 2-0 after one period, but a late second period goal by Cam Barker and goals by Jordie Benn and Reilly Smith 14 seconds apart in the third put them ahead, 3-2. The Rivermen forced overtime, scoring a power play goal with 3.6 seconds left. The Stars then won it in the tenth round of the shootout when Chiasson beat Peoria goalie Jake Allen with a wrist shot. Tomas Vincour also scored in the shootout for Texas.
Cristopher Nilstorp made 38 saves in regulation and stopped 9 of 10 in the shootout.

The Idaho Steelheads, Dallas ECHL affiliate, won all three of their games last week to improve to 14-5-0-2 on the season. The Steelheads are currently third in the ECHL’s Western Conference.

Goaltender Tyler Beskorowany stopped 30 of 31 shots in Idaho’s 3-1 victory over Colorado on Saturday. Beskorowany is 5-5-1 this season with a 2.97 goals against average and a .901 save percentage.
