Texas Stars fall to Grand Rapids, winning streak ends at three

The Texas Stars saw their winning streak end at three games Saturday night following a 3-2 loss at Grand Rapids. The loss also snapped a four-game road winning streak for the Stars.

It was just the second regulation loss in the last ten games for the Stars, who are now 9-8-1-1 on the season.

Matt Fraser had one goal and one assist for the Stars. Colton Sceviour also scored. Jack Campbell got the start in goal and stopped 33 of 36 shots.

Grand Rapids struck first, scoring 3:37 into the game to take a 1-0 lead. After a Texas turnover, Francis Pare got Campbell to go down and lifted the puck into the net from the right circle.

The Stars drew even at the 10:20 mark of the first when Max Fortunus’ shot was redirected into the net by Fraser.

A little more than three minutes later, Fraser set up Sceviour off the rush and the Stars had a 2-1 lead they held into the first intermission.

The Griffins tied it early in the second on a goal by Brian Lashoff, whose shot from point deflected off traffic and by Campbell at the 2:27 mark.

Grand Rapids took the lead at the 12:20 of the second period when Triston Grant was credited with a goal that came off a scramble in front of the Texas net. The Stars thought the puck was put into the net off a hand, but there was no review on the play.

There was no scoring in the third period. The Stars pulled Campbell with just under one minute to play, had some good pressure but were unable to get a puck by Griffins goalie Petr Mrazek, who made 26 saves in the game.
