Here are some notes on Dallas Stars prospects playing in junior hockey, college and in the European Leagues.
*RW Brett Ritchie (second round/2011) scored two goals Sunday, running his goal scoring streak in the Ontario Hockey League to eight games. Ritchie has 16 goals during the streak, and now has 19 goals over his last 12 games for the Niagara IceDogs. For the season, Ritchie has 38 points (20 goals, 18 assists) in 24 games. He is tied for the league lead in goal scoring and ranks third in points.
*C Radek Faksa (first round/2012) has been in and out of the lineup over the past week for Kitchener of the OHL due to what the team is calling the flu. The Waterloo Region Record reports that the team has run tests on Faksa (who has been fatigued and dealing with a sore throat) and has ruled out mono and tonsillitis. Faksa played though the illness Friday and registered three assists. He sat out Saturday, but was back in the lineup Sunday and picked up an assist in Kitchener’s 4-3 loss to London.
*C Gemel Smith (fourth round/2012) scored two goals in three games over the past week. Smith, who had a four-game goal scoring streak snapped on Sunday, has 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) in his last 18 games.
*RW Matej Stransky (sixth round/2011) scored two goals in Saskatoon’s 5-2 victory over Vancouver Sunday night in the WHL. Stransky, who has 3 goals and 1 assist in his last two games, has registered points in 11 of his last 13 games and has 17 points (6 goals, 11 assists) during that stretch.
*C Mike Winther (second round/2012) had one goal and one assist in Prince Albert’s 4-3 overtime win over Edmonton in the WHL on Saturday. Winther has 19 points (9 goals, 10 assists) in 20 games this season.
*D Jyrki Jokipakka (seventh round/2012) scored his fifth goal of the season for Ilves of Finland’s SM-Liiga last week. Jokipakka is tied for the lead in goal scoring among defensemen in Finland’s top league and his 12 points are tied for eighth. His 25:16 of ice time per game ranks sixth among SM-Liiga defensemen
*C Scott Winkler (third round/2008) had one goal and one assists in Colorado College’s 6-2 loss to Denver on Saturday. Winkler, a senior, has 12 points (7 goals, 5 assists) in 12 games.
*C Devin Shore (second round/2012) picked up an assist in Maine’s 2-2 tie with Massachusetts on Friday. Shore has points in three straight games and in four of the last five. Shore, a freshman, leads Maine in scoring with 6 points (1 goal, 5 assists) in 12 games.
*LW Curtis McKenzie (sixth round/2009) scored the game-winning goal as Miami University defeated Michigan State, 2-0, on Saturday. McKenzie, a senior, has 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists) in 10 games this season.
*D Dmitry Sinitsyn (seventh round/2012) scored his first college goal as UMass-Lowell defeated Massachusetts, 8-2, on Sunday. Sinitsyn was a plus-3 in the game as well.
*A couple of injury notes. RW Branden Troock (fifth round/2012) remains out with an upper body injury for Seattle of the WHL. He hasn’t played in almost a month. D John Klingberg (fifth round/2010) has yet to play this season in the Swedish Elite League due to offseason hip surgery.
