Here are some notes on Dallas Stars prospects playing in juniors, college and in the European leagues.
*RW Brett Ritchie (second round/2011) continues to roll. Ritchie extended his goal scoring streak to five games, scoring a goal in each of his last two games for Niagara of the Ontario Hockey League. Ritchie has scored 12 goals and chipped in four assists during the streak. He now has 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists) in 21 games and is tied for third in the OHL in scoring. Ritchie also suited up for Team OHL in the Subway Super Series versus Russia. Although Ritchie didn’t score, he played a strong game and his performance received some strong reviews from the likes of TSN’s Bob McKenzie and CBC’s Elliotte Friedman.
*C Gemel Smith (fourth round/2012) has two goals and one assist in his last two games for Owen Sound of the OHL. Smith has registered points in 13 of his last 15 games and has 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) during that stretch.
*RW Matej Stransky (sixth round/2011) has picked up points in 9 of his last 11 games for Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League. Stransky has registered 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists) during that stretch.
*C Mike Winther (second round/2012) picked up 5 points (3 goals, 2 assists) in three games over the last week for Prince Albert of the WHL. Winther has 16 points (8 goals, 8 assists) in 17 games this season.
*D Troy Vance (fifth round/2011) is riding a three-game points streak for Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Vance has 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) during the streak.
*C Scott Winkler (third round/2008) picked up 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) as Colorado College won both its games against Bemidji State this weekend. Winkler, a senior, has 10 points (6 goals, 4 assists) in 10 games and leads Colorado College in goal scoring and is tied for the team lead in points.
*F Devin Shore (second round/2012) scored his first college goal as Maine defeated Massachusetts-Lowell, 4-3, on Saturday. Shore, a freshman, has 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists) and is tied for the team lead in points.
*LW Curtis McKenzie (sixth round/2009) scored a goal as Miami University defeated Northern Michigan Friday night. McKenzie, a senior, has 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) in 8 games this season.
*F Emil Molin (fourth round/2011) had 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) in three games as Sweden won the 4-Nations Under-20 tournament in Sweden over the weekend. D Ludwig Bystrom (second round/2012) had no points and a plus-one rating in two games for Sweden. D Esa Lindell (third round/2012) had no points and a plus-three rating in three games for Finland at the tournament.
*On the injury front, C Radek Faksa (first round/2012) missed Sunday night’s game between Kitchener and Oshawa in the OHL due to illness. RW Branden Troock (fifth round/2012) remains out for Seattle of the WHL due to an upper body injury.
