Here are some notes on Dallas Stars prospects playing in juniors, college and the European leagues.
*Right wing Brett Ritchie had a spectacular weekend in the Ontario Hockey League. The second round pick from 2011 racked up six points (four goals, two assists) in Niagara’s 9-4 victory over Guelph on Saturday night (more here) and followed it up by scoring five goals in Niagara’s 6-4 victory over Peterborough Sunday afternoon (more here). That was nine goals and two assists in two games for Ritchie, who has 13 goals over his last seven games. Ritchie now ranks third in scoring in the OHL with 29 points (14 goals, 15 assists) in 19 games and he is tied for third in goal scoring.
*Center Gemel Smith had two goals and two assists on Friday and then a goal and two assists on Saturday to run his points streak to eleven games in the OHL. Smith, a fourth round pick in 2012, had his points streak snapped on Sunday. Smith has 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) in 17 games and is tied for 16th in the OHL in scoring.
*Right wing Matej Stransky picked up one goal and one assist in two games over the weekend for Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League. Stransky, a sixth round pick in 2011, has registered points in eight of his last nine games, and has eleven points (three goals, eight assists) during that stretch.
*Defenseman Jyrki Jokipakka scored two goals in Ilves’ 7-2 loss to SaiPa in Finland’s top league on Thursday. The two goals gave Jokipakka, a seventh round pick in 2011, four for the season, tying him for the lead among defensemen in the SM-Liiga. His 11 points in 20 games is tied for sixth among defensemen. Jokipakka also ranks sixth among all defensemen in ice time, logging 25:28 per game.
